Alexander van Slobbe is, together with Viktor & Rolf, internationally recognised as one of the leading Dutch fashion designers. In Japan he became an absolute star with his label So, currently he is mainly concentrating on his label Orson + Bodil. In addition he designs shoes and clothing for the German sportswear brand Puma. The Netherlands is not yet sufficiently aware of Van Slobbe’s international status, while the esteem in which he is held abroad was recently confirmed by the cover of a fashion supplement in Le Monde, France’s most important newspaper, a lot of which was devoted to Orson + Bodil. What distinguishes Alexander van Slobbe from other designers? His minimalistic, conceptual style is completely original, yet fits totally within couture. Instead of continually setting out new lines, he works gradually, so that his garments become timeless. Pieces by Van Slobbe from ten years ago can still be worn without any problem, which is also the result of the high quality of the finishing.

The book provides insight into the designer’s ideas and technique, his intriguing career and his efforts to improve the infrastructure of Dutch fashion. Indispensable for all those interested in (Dutch) fashion. Alexander van Slobbe is a splendidly designed and illustrated edition that does full justice to Van Slobbe’s qualities as a designer.
