The theme of Wanderwort 5, Words and Things, is derived from the book Les mots et les choses. Une archéologie des sciences humaines (1966) by the French philosopher Michel Foucault. Foucault conducted a study into the work of the artist René Magritte and his examination of the relationship between object, naming, image, representation and meaning. He carried on a correspondence with the artist. In 1929, in the magazine La Revolution Surréaliste, Magritte published a sort of comic strip under the title Les mots et les images, consisting of a list of rules that explain his work. The famous painting Ceci n’est pas une pipe is a visualisation of his ideas. For Wanderwort 5, students from the Arnhem Academy, AKI Enschede and CABK Zwolle have interpreted this theme in often surprising ways
